The Acer netbook is manufactured by the Acer Group, a company comprised of four computing brands — Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell and eMachines. Acer ranks as the world’s third-largest company for total PC shipments, is No. 2 for notebooks. Revenues in 2010 were more than $16 billion.
Acer’s netbook family are all variations of its Acer Aspire One netbook.
Building on its popular Acer Aspire One Netbook, Acer offers the Aspire One with 10.1 and 11.6 inch screens. The screens are either WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600-pixel resolution) or a HD WXGA LED-backlit display (1366 x 768-pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio). All models of the Acer Aspire One netbook weigh just under 3 pounds and come with either a 3, 6 or 8-cell battery.
All of the Acer netbooks use versions of Intel’s Atom processor which has a brand new design structure based on hafnium-infused circuitry which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors to conserve energy. For example, an Intel Atom processor uses just 2.5 watts of power–less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. New dual core Atom processors are also available for purchase.
Each Acer netbook comes with Linux, Windows XP Home, or Windows 7 (starter and home) an 80, 160 or 250 GB hard drive, 1GB or 2GB of SDRAM, integrated webcam and microphone, and are available in a variety of colors: Diamond Black, Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, and Seashell White. Each netbook has a smooth comfortable surface.
Other included netbook features are 54g Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n), multi-format memory card readers, multiple USB ports, and built-in email, web browsing, and digital media applications. Because of their size, no Acer netbook comes with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected via one of the three USB ports.
A typical Acer netbook will come preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. The best selling netbook today is the 10.1″ screen size as the 11.6″ netbook has just being released with the Windows 7 operating system.
