We were impressed with the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM 10.1-Inch netbook, but then again, we love netbooks with stellar battery life. The ASUS 1015PEM netbook represents the state of the art in today’s 10.1 inch netbook market.
Coming in at a meager 2.8 lbs, the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM 10.1-Inch netbook is light and nimble. It features a 1.5GHz Intel Atom Dual Core N550 processor which burns less power than prior models, 1GB DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi.
Other features include Bluetooth 3.0 and a 0.3MP webcam. While the webcam is not the 1.3MP found on many competing netbooks, we found its resolution adequate for video calling with Skype callers telling us our video looked fine.
We suspect that the smaller pixel camera was selected for video calling bandwidth (smaller pictures take less time to send) and overall power drain on the battery.
The 10.1-Inch 1024X600 WSVGA matte finish LED display and 92%-scaled ergonomic keyboard with multi-touch touchpad are pretty standard for netbooks in this class. Some customers have complained about issues with the touchpad, but the percentage of these are low and this seems to be a random netbook issue not specific to ASUS.
We’ve always found the ASUS netbooks to be about the best in battery life and the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM is no exception. Rated at 13 hours of battery life, customers report 8 to 1o hours of real life usage with this range dependent on screen brightness, processing tasks and WiFi use.
The ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM 10.1-Inch netbook comes in four colors: black, blue, red and white and comes with Windows 7 Starter operating system (32 bit).

Customer Reviews
“I got this for my wife who needed more portability than her laptop provided. It does what we wanted a netbook to do- 1) wireless works well; 2) keyboard is easy to use, not too small; 3) battery life is good- got at least 10 hours, didn’t run it down; 4) easy to carry around- took it on a trip overseas, very comfortable.”
“I’ve been in the market for a netbook, decided to bite the bullet when these became available with the N550 dual core processor. This is my first netbook and only experience with one, so take my review for what it’s worth. Had it a few days before I upgraded to 2gb (no questions asked, absolute must) and immediately upgraded the BIOS after setup and running. Nice little compact size. Relatively thin and not too heavy. The black matte has a rather odd hue, it seems almost having a blueish tint, which I thought was rather peculiar. It attracts finger prints more than I thought it would, maybe not as much as a gloss finish, but they do show up.”
“The deal maker however is the epic battery life with this netbook. I get around 8 hours with everything turned on (i.e. Bluetooth, and wifi). My work laptop gets about three hours.”
“I’ve had the netbook for about a week now, and can say I’m thrilled with my purchase. With wifi left on, bluetooth left off, and the screen dimmed to it’s lowest setting (which is still plenty bright for me indoors), my first charge lasted over 10 hours. Four or 5 of those hours were spent watching full-screen videos in bed on Netflix. It’s also worth mentioning that with the netbook off, the battery recharges very quickly (under 2 hours to full). The hardware is perfectly adequate for heaving browsing in Firefox and handles multiple (5-10) tabs with ease. It does come preloaded with some bloatware, most of which I uninstalled.”
